About

Photographs seen in my teens by such photographers as Dorothea Langue, Walker Evans, Irving Penh, Richard Avedon, and others had a profound effect, perhaps the most significant meeting with art in my high school years. But along with this was my fascination with the History, and the past. It was not until later that I thought about actually making photographs. In addition, reading about photography and attending the Aperion Photographic Workshops in Millerton, New York gave me a kind of background. What I was to do with my love of photography and my background was to come later, in a few places. For me “place” seems essential. By that I mean that where I am should have a kind of character or strength. Then I can more easily desire to photograph.
